School readiness
Early years in schools
As a local authority, we must meet many statutory duties passed in law by the government. The early years foundation stage (EYFS) is a statutory framework. It supports children's learning and development from birth to the end of reception year.
The EYFS is statutory for:
- an early years and childcare provider on Ofsted's Early Years Register
- a provider registered with a childminder agency
- a maintained school
- a non-maintained school
- an academy
- an independent school
We offer support across the county to help you to meet the EYFS and includes:
- information
- advice
- guidance
- training
See Essex Schools Infolink for more on early years in schools. EYFS profile and moderation documents are there too.
